Diary dates: UK-wide online content workshops

The Strategic Content Alliance is delighted to announce a series  of  workshops across the UK during June and July aimed at senior policy makers and practitioners involved in the delivery of online content and services over the internet.

The events will deliver enhanced professional understanding, as well as the opportunity to evaluate and critique the following alliance areas of works:

• Audience Analysis – meet user needs
• Business Modelling and Sustainability
• Intellectual Property Rights and Licencing
• Introduction to Digipedia – a moderated wiki aimed at synthesising the digital content life-cycle information and knowledge from authoritative sources

The workshops are designed to appeal anyone involved in the digital content lifecycle from creation to curation. Please do put a date in your diary for an event near you.

What you can expect from the event?

The event will run in three parts, meaning you can choose either one or more parts to attend:

Breakfast Briefing (Normally 09.00-10.00 – please check the blog for further information)
These are short updates on the alliances work in online content policy arena concerning issues such as Digital Britain, The Power of Information Review, UK agencies strategies etc. They are aimed at senior managers of libraries, archives and museums across all sectors. You will hear how you can get a “seat at the table” to help steer the development of the UK Content Framework in the future and get the opportunity to share knowledge and experience with fellow professionals.

Developing and maintaining online content for the 21st century – learning lessons from others – an overview of the Alliance’s work (10.30-12.30)
You will see and hear how other agencies facing similar challenges in the development of online content in health, education and research, cultural heritage and public service broadcasting general and the following areas specifically are achieving success. This is aimed at giving you an oversight into the tools aimed at enhancing your professional skills and practice. Conversely we are looking for you to use and comment on these tools in your day-to-day practice, highlighting what does and doesn’t work in specific circumstances. In addition you will receive an introduction to Digipedia – a moderated wiki aimed at synthesising the digital content life-cycle information and knowledge from authoritative sources.

Lunch 12.30-13.00

Specialist themes (13.00-16.00)

Each workshop will focus on one specialist theme in the afternoon. This session aims to develop a better understanding of a specific topic using the knowledge and experience of a specialist expert and the tools developed by the Alliance and others. This will take an  ‘ hands on approach ‘  allowing delegates to explore how best to use and enhance the tools developed. Therefore, if you have a specialised interest or feel you would like to learn more about one of these areas, please do register for one of these events.

  • Intellectual Property Rights: Exploring Copyright and IPR /licensing challenges and the tools available to mitigate them. Workshops: Birmingham, London, Newcastle, Cardiff.
  • Business Modelling and Sustainability: Investigating mechanisms for generating, or gaining access to, the economic resources to keep content available on an on-going basis. Workshops: Glasgow, Brighton, Norwich.
  • Audience Analysis: Understanding content and service delivery to meet the evolving needs of the e-citizen. Workshops: Liverpool, Bristol, Bournemouth, Belfast.
  • Web 2.0: Harnessing emerging technologies – How these can be applied in the ‘real-word’. Workshops: Manchester, Leeds, Plymouth.

Practitioners: Senior managers, archivists, librarians, curators, digital asset managers, web developers, business managers, ICT experts from cultural heritage, education/research, health and public service broadcasting.

Policy makers: chief librarians, heads of IT services, government representatives, museum directors and heads of departments from cultural heritage, education/research, health and public service broadcasting.
