Who should attend?

The workshops are primarily aimed at delegates from colleges and universities, archives, libraries, museums, the health service, public service broadcasting and schools who have a professional involvement in the creation and curation of digital content. No particular technical knowledge is required.

The key issues: Why are intellectual property rights so important in the creation and curation of digital content?

For public bodies, a good understanding of intellectual property rights (IPR) and licensing of digital content is essential. In an age of funding cuts, the ability to understand and react to potential new business strategies means practitioners need to develop their skills in IPR and licensing. This includes understanding the implications of new trends in licensing, the impact of legislative change and the new economics of digital content where ubiquitous mobile access to digital content is the norm. Keys issues for consideration include what permissions are required, the resources required to seek such permissions, management of works where rights holders are unknown or cannot be traced and how end users will be able to engage with digital content.

Expert Speakers

Once again we are delighted to be able to welcome Naomi Korn – a visionary but grounded speaker with a track record of delivering expert advice and guidance to the public sector.

In order for you to gain a fresh and invaluable insight into the critical issues affecting the public sector, Emma Beer will give an overview of the state of play.

Networking

The small and intimate atmosphere of Alliance workshops (with a maximum of 30 delegates) allows you to network with your peers – hearing first hand how others are facing up to the new challenges and opportunities.

Topics covered will include:

IPR Overview of the legislative and licensing landscape in which digital content is created, used and re-used

A watching brief of new developments and topical issues which are informing IPR debate and/or policy

Case law examples of IPR legislation ‘in action’ and the role of risk managed approach to content creation and curation.

Introduction to the Alliance’s IPR and Licensing Toolkit with group persona/scenario sessions

By the end of the workshop, delegates will have:

  • Gained a better understanding of the role of IPR and licensing with the context of digital content creation and curation;
  • Understood the role of procedures in their organisation for achieving best copyright practice;
